Today I'm sharing a simple DIY that can really make a statement in any space.
Sit back and enjoy this really simple tutorial on how to get this look.
Here are the supplies you will need (I had some extra scrap wood- if you do, this makes perfect use of the extra pieces you may have lying around)
- 1" x 2" piece of wood
- 1" x 3" piece of wood x 2
- Wood glue
- Nail gun or finish nails
- Caulking if necessary
- L shaped bracket and screws (for attaching to the wall)
- Your choice of hooks (for the towel rack portion)
- (OPTIONAL accessories) Craft letters of choice, or pictures to sit on the ledge
As you can see in the picture above, this ledge is very easy to put together...
1- Take your pieces of wood and glue together as pictured above. I recommend starting with two pieces. Glue then nail and then move on to attach the third piece.
2- Once the pieces are attached, you can caulk the seams if necessary.
3- Add a few coats of your favorite paint.
4- Screw hooks onto desired location on bottom.
5- Affix to the wall using the L shaped brackets as pictured. (You can attach the shelf to the wall any way you prefer- this was easiest for me!)
6- Optional: I purchased craft letters to spell WASH since this shelf is in the bathroom and painted with the color of choice. You can also place pictures or even books on the ledge.
This project was so easy I ended up doing the same type of shelf above our fireplace mantle and placed our family photos there. This would also be a great project to decorate a nursery with a book ledge. You could just omit the bottom 1" x 3" piece of wood.
The possibilities are endless 🙂
